Dear Governor -

I have asked from the President the appointment of my only son to West Point.

The boy has set his heart on it and I hope may not be disappointed. You have seen him and for his sake & his father's I would like you to give your personal attention to this claim.

I have asked nothing from the Executive & been content to do such work as I am assigned to.

If you choose to exert yourself in this matter I shall consider it an additional obligation to the many already conferred on
