His Excellency, Richard Yates, Gov. of the State of Ills,
Dear Sir I am requested by the widow of the late Dr S B. Munger. deceased. to write you regarding his pay for Services in the Army of the U S Commencing about the first of June '61 - and ending about the first of November following - in the army of the Potomac - as an Assistant Sergeon of the first Californian Regiment under Command of the lamented Col. Baker. And again as a volunteer Sergeon in the
40th Illinois Reg. Vet Vol.. from the first of May last until the first of September last The poor widow Says She heard the Doctor remark that, there was a Small amount due him from the Government and that was all he evere Expected to get unless your Excellency gave him Something as a Volunteer Surgeon - The widow is a fine good woman, with three Small Children. and Very little means of Support Consequently is very desirous, of knowing, whether there is any thing due the Doctor that She could get to add to the comfort of her little ones. She Says that the Doctor Claimed that there was Something due him for his Services first Spoken of and that She thought the Doctor
had had Some correspondence with you in regard to it
The Doctor came home from the Army (where he was doing duty as Division Surgeon of the first Division 13th Army Corpse) about the 20th of August last, and lingered until the 20th of October when he died of Chronic Dioreah - The widow has no papers that will give any light on the matter in question hence this refference to your Excellency
Please oblige her with an answer
Yours Most Truly
