Mr Yates Dear Sir through grave necessity i take up my pen to maik a request of you. That is to see if you can get a discharge for my Boy James Knowles that inlisted the 26 of february last in Co D 114 Reg Ill Vol. I suffer with the remtis and am not able to make my living and he is my only support in old age he was [?] in by others he was not sixteen for fear he might run off and I would not hear of him I let him go you will do your Best for me if possible to get him a discharge and send one soon as possible. I am the widow of James Knowles your old friend he was a friend of yours pleas write soon and let me no direct to Hannah A Knowles Virginia Cafs Co Ill yours respectfully
