ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE,
SANITARY DEPARTMENT,
Springfield, December 29, 1864
Governor Yates.
City Dear Sir,
Our San. Agent at Washington has been doing nobly for our sick and wounded soldiers there & at Annapolis Maryland. He is willing to continue to serve us if we can secure for him the privilege, from the Secretary of the Interior, of attending, when necessary, to the wants of the soldiers in office hours, provided the work of his desk is kept up regularly. The Board of Directors of the Sanitary Commission at their meeting last night directed me to ask you to apply to the Secretary of the Interior, to grant this privilege to our Washington Agent, Mr Newton Crawford.
Mr Crawford is a very efficient and faithful Agent, and will not neglect his duties should the privilege solicits be granted.
Your earliest attention to this matter Will oblige, and be productive of much Good to our poor boys at Washington
I have the honor, Governor, to be Your very Obedient Servant
