His Hon Richrd Yates
Sir: allow me to ask of you the prospect of Egyt & more Peticulary Pope County in the comeing draft I wish to Keep my County a head of all demands and wish if not asking more than I Should an answer to this I have in view a plan to get up a company and think of this Plan I thought of getting you to commision Some one to get up the company & by so doing with my help might raise a company There is in the County several who would be good men one by the name of David Hynes who has Served three years & resigned his commision as (Lut?)= will you give me Some Idia as to the getting up of a company & if they would have the chois as to what Reg they would be consigned to I thought that it would be best to call it an independant comp if that name could b applied properly
We have ben sending recruits up but for the Last -6- months
it has ben a hard matter to get men through to there choise of rig - and when I ask a man to go in to the 6th he will Say to me you cant send me to it if I do want to go & this rather dampens my energy but I have Sent up 5 lately And nothing Shall deter me in getting recruits but it is evident that Some one in this part of the Country Should have power to Send men to the reg he wishes to be in without so much delay I hope you will Excuse me if I have said anything amiss as I do asure you that I am aiming at the good of the cause
Respectfully yours
