Dear Governor,
Through you Capt. Edward W. Bennett of 73d Reg't, Ill. Vol. has already applied to the War Dep't. to be commissioned Capt. of Commisary
Mr. Bennett father of Capt. Bennett desires that you will be kind enough to look after the above while at Washington: as he learns that you design being there shortly.
Mr. Bennett called to see you to day but could not find you, & he desires that I would call your attention as above.
Mr. Bennett the father of the Capt is one of our old, faithful Methodist preachers, his son, the Capt, has been in the service ever sinse the war began & through some of its severest battles
& always at his post, & worked his way from a private to his present position. He is an intelligent, high-minded, & energetic young man & every way reliable.
Rev. Mr. Bennett, the father lost a younger son near Atlanta in the attack there, & his son-in-law lost his leg about the same time
