We the undersigned members of Company H. 32nd Illinois Infantry not haveing reinlisted as veteran soldiers and hearing that we are to be held over our time through the Neglect of some of our superiors officers we therefor wish to make a plaine statement of our case to you and ask your aid and Advise there are eight of us and our term of Service Expires according to Enlistment Betweene Now and the second of November the Dates of Enlistment are as follows To Wit.
Sergt James Hawkshaw Sept the 10th 1861
Sergt John C. Dougherty Sept 18th 1861
Sergt William. H. Travis Sept 14th 1861
Sergt James H. Elliott Oct the 26th 1861
Private James W. Burk Sept 14th 1861
Sandaman Edmondson Nov [23?] 1861
Dennis Katon Dec the 23th 1861
this is A correct copy of our first Company Roll which through the Neglect of some of our officers was not signed we wish you to make A statement of the case to Governer Yates Eather in Person or By mail we are all of us willing to perform Duty up to the Date of our Enlistment if you will Be kind Enough to
Attend to the matter for us we will Pay you for your time and trouble I understand that if our papers was made out showing that the first company roll was not signed through the Neglect of the officers in Command of our Company that we would be mustered out of servise according to Date of Enlistment But the officers in command at this present time intimates that they will have nothing to Do with makeing the above statement If you will take the matter in hand Please let us know By the Earliest opportunity and oblige yours with Respect
