Quincy Sept 9th 1861
His Excellency Richard Yates
Dear Sir
When in Springfield during the extra session I spoke to you about giving a friend of mine - indeed my nephew - Henry L Warren, a situation. He is a young man of a high order of talents, was partly educated at the [illegible] school - and is competent to fill with fidelity and honor a high station. Recently he has been elected Adjutent of the Regiment organized here, and of which Doc Bane is Col You will, of course,
commission him as such, but I desire to obtain for him a better situation and think him entitled to it. I appeal to you for it.
I also recommend Doc David McLeith, of Henderson Co, as a suitable person to be appointed Surgeon of a Rigement and hope he will be most favorably considered.
I do not know that my recommendations are entitled to any respect, but I must confess I have thought they were entitled to at
least as much as those who approved the positions and views I occupied and entertained while in Congress and since, until they found their hostility to the government would not do and then changed over.
A line from you in reply would oblige me
For seven weeks I have been confined to my house and bed by sickness & can but just now hold a pen
Very truly
I N Morris
