With R.P. Robinson letter 9/27/61
Dixon, Sept. 10th 1861
Governor Yates:
Sir: We take great pleasure in introducing Robert P. Robinson Esq, now of Sterling Ill. but late of this place, to the favorable acquaintance of your Excellency, and earnestly recommend him to an appointment in some Regiment, or other position, such as he may indicate to you.
Our reasons for this are as follows: 1st That he is an honorable patriotic, capable & efficient business man and will faithfully serve the Government in any position that may be assigned him.
2d, That he has three sons, a son in law & a step-son now serving in the Army of Volunteers, one of whom was wounded in the
battle at Springfield - and it is only the immediate necessities of his family, & his gray hairs that prevents the Sire from being with his sons -
3d We are willing to guaranty his fitness for any position that requires integrity & good business talent -
Very respectfully yours
