Dear Sir
I have written My friend B C Cook to see Lincoln and get [illegible] appointed [Payma ?] of the Army for the Northwest I am very poor and need Something that has Some money in it that has a little about three thousand a year which Might run about two years I do not know how I can get along without Some thing that I can get five thousand dollars to pay for my little farm I dont care for Station or position but a little money to make me secure for a living If you will confer with Cook on this matter and get that or Some other like position I will be much obliged I would prefer Some position that would not prevent me from attending to my law practice at home
