Hon. R. Yates
Washington
Dear Sir
I trust that you
will find it practicable to obtain the appointment
of our mutual friend Isaac L. Morrison Esq. of this place
to the Office of U.S. Dis. Att'y for Southern Dis this State.
There is no necessity for me to say anything more
to you than I have already said, for you perfectly
understand my opinion of him as to fitness for the
Office. I have always been very careful in recom-
mending individuals for appointment to positions of trust
and whilst I am very partial in my friendship to him,
yet I would not desire to see him appointed unless I
was confident that he will prove to be the "right man
in the right place"
Our worthy President will have no fears of any mistake
being made by this appointment for he is competent,
faithful, uncompromisingly loyal & honest, and is
and has been an earnest worker in our cause.
Don't fail, get him the place, and so oblige
Your friend
M. P. Ayers
