Last week I was in Springfield as a witness before the House Pen. Com. & should have called upon you but was ill One of the witnesses testafied that he waited upon you & informed you that Comdt Buck was interested in the contract of Capt Pitman & that the fact could be established beyond a doubt & urged upon you his removal as an act of public justice
& that you replied that if you removed Dr Buck you would lose two or three votes in the legislature for the U S senate
The testimony is foreign to the object arrived at by Com. & ought & can be expunged if desired by you
