Platteville Jan 23rd 1865 Gov Yates Honored Sir I Warren W. Armstrong Soldier of the 14 & 15th Ill Vet Bat was taken prisoner on the 4th day of Oct/64 and was paroled on the [20?] day of Nov I received a furlough on the 6th day of Dec to the [illegible] day of Jan 1865 at which time I was to report at Camp Chase Ohio but not hearing of our exchange and my health not being very good I have neglected to do so [illegible] to this date a few days ago I was informed by a paroled soldier that we was exchanged and that the exchanged soldiers were removed from camp Chase. and now that I am wishing to return to my duty as a soldier
to my country I write this to you to enquire where I have to report and if you will be kind enough to furnish me with transportation as I received only two months pay when I received my furlough and am short of means Your attention to the above will much oblidge, your obedient servent Warren W.
