Your's is received. I have the promise of Mr Stanton to appoint you an Assistant Paymaster on or about the middle of April---I am trying to do something better for you but it is uncertain whether I will now succeed---The President has adopted the policy of making very few changes and hence the appointments in proportion

Please let me know immediately whether you will accept the position of Paymaster?---
I have secured the cooperation of the old Delegate of Dakotah in urging your nomination for the office of Secretary of that Territory. The new delegate is adverse. The office is worth they say near ten thousand per annum---Success doubtful---
I presume I shall have to leave the first of next week in consequence of the bad health but intend to return soon---
