Lewistown May 11 1865 Hon Richard Yates U.S.S. Dear Sir Sometime last winter yourself Gov Oglesby Col Babcock and other kind friends signed a shing letter of recommendation to our lamented president in behalf of the transfer of my son Maj George Phelps paymaster in the vol service from that to the regular army. As no action was had upon it previous to the sad death of our friend president Lincoln you will very much oblige us by using your influence with president Johnsen and the proper department for the transfer to be made. My son is now stationed at serv Albany Ia with many thanks for your kindness to us I am very truly your friend, Myron Phelps may I hear from you soon
