Hon R. Yates

Sir

Excuse the liberty I take of a rather slight acquaintance of writing you

I have not seen you since you appointed me to command the Camp of Rendezvous at Dixon Ill. In August A.D. 62. I was shot badly at Perryville, Ky & have been in about all the Battles in this department except Stone River Winding up with Franklin & the two days Battles at Nashville & finishing with the march to Bulls Gap & beyond. In east Tenn to keep Lee from getting out by Nat Route

I now write, to request you, if convenient &C. that you will please send to any address Sterling Illinois the "Report of the Committee on the conduct of the War"

I have been in the field for the last four years & am behind with reading. Would like to be under obligation to you for these Books

Very respect.
