Virden Ill May 18 1865 Hon R Yates U.S.S. Your kind communication in reference to Frank Betzinger is just recd. Many thanks. I shall take advantage of your suggestions John B. Rogers N.B. the envelope containing the message had been mutilated by having a hole perforated in the upper edge. it might be presumed that the mutilation was done at this post office as the party wishes to have the envelope as a reason for so supposing I got up a petitions of numerous merchants & others for the post office last winter and sent on to Washington. He likely thinking your communication a commission the present P.M. at this place is very unpopular and always has been I do not seek particularly for the office any other competent person would do will you please be kind enough to attend to this matter. I refer you to G. W. Dugger C. P. Heaton O. B Heaton & other patrons of this office. The present P. M. has but few friends here Yours truly John B Rogers
