Allow me to introduce to your acquaintance the bearer Mr. E. W. Hulburd of this place who has been in Service with the Irish Brigade in Missouri and who I take pleasure in reccommending to you as a man in every respect worthy of confidence and esteem. He is desirous of obtaining an appointment in some of the Cavalry Regiments now forming in this State, and I will suggest that you will find him worthy of all confidence and perfectly reliable in any position for which he may ask an
appointment at your hands He is a particular of H. M. Day who is now operating in Missouri under an appointment through you.
Mr Day is also from this place and I am happy to learn that he is giving satisfaction and bids fair to make an excelant officer one worthy of his position and the confidence you have placed in him
Any favor you may show Mr. E. W. Hulburd in granting his requests will be kindly appreciated and [each?] remembered by
