Honored Sir,
I write those few
lines in haste to let you know
I am in the greatest anxiety about
my bounty. I have been in Davids
Island Sick my descriptive list
did not come out correct with the
Paymasters Roll, so I have to wait
till I get return from the Senitary
Commission, which I [put?] in Genl
Scotts Senitary Commission, they
have forwarded to the War Department
but it will be a long time till it
comes my return, if you do not intervene
for me as, your honor and influence
can obtain it, in a short time if
you would trouble yourself about it
I am weak in health and does
not know what to do. I am out
of money, and cant support myself
any longer. I was only paid for my
time in the Regt which was four months
pay. I belongd to the 39th N. Y. V. Vol,
Co E, so it is in the hands of Genl Scotts
Senitary Commission and it may
be half a Year before it would
come my turn if a Lawyer does
not interfere. So I put my trust in
God and you that you will hasten
it to me for I am in deep distress
about it. I have fought for my Country
for nearly 9 years and that is the
way I am recompensed,
Honord, Sir,
Be kind to remember
me to Mrs. Yates Daughter and
Son, and believe me to be your
