To his Excellency Gov. Yates

Dear Sir – Could you [procure?] me some position in the Army [or] as Quarter Master Commissary or some other appointment where I could be useful – I am now editing a Union paper here without pay – I think our County has not been favored with any appointment yet, either from the State or National Government – I could give you ample reference or recommendation if you should request – Should you deem this application worth your attention, you will confer a great favor and hold me under lasting obligations
