State of Illinois Executive Department Springfield July 30th 1863
Surgeon in Charge Hospital. Jefferson Barracks Saint Louis MO
Sir:
If not uncomfortable with the interests of the service, I would feel obliged by your granting a furlough to Corporal Chas W. Andrus. Co. B. 33rd Ills Vols. in order that he may be taken care of by his parents. He is a faithful soldier and will report himself in proper time to his regiment.
Most Respectfully, Your obed't servt. Rich Yates Governor
U.S. Genl Hospl, Jefferson Barracks Augt 3. 1863
In reply to the within I have the honor to state that we are allowed to furlough 5 per cent of the soldiers sick in hospital. This number has already been exhausted + there can be no more given until our numbers increase or some of those away return. Corpl Andrus' case shall have due consideration -
Very Respectfully your obt. svt.
Jno. F Randolph, Surg USA in charge
