His Excellency Gov Rich d Yates Dear Sir You will remember perhaps that I mentioned a matter to you concerning the "New York Illustrated News?" I have since corresponded with the parties controlling that paper, and learn that the project of engraving your portrait accompanying it with a written biography of yourself, could be advantageously accomplished.
My friend Mr Phillips who was their former editor has
engaged to write the Biography, and to introduce such suggestions as you might make relative to a future political programme. By our arrangement the letter/[illegible] of this office is already secured-and without cost- the engraving of the portrait by a competent artist will cost $100. I am disposed to think that this would be a hundred dollars well spent, and I submit it to your consideration. Mr Church will explain to you in detail the status of the project. We should like to have at your earliest convenience such biographical hints as Mr Phillips can use to advantage. If this meets your [illegible], I should like to send the picture and manuscript in to New York at once. I think that from the acquaintance
you already have with me, you will be disposed to rely on me in whatever I do in this matter trusting to my ability and discretion. Hoping to hear from you at once. I am truly yours, John Artrobus
PS.
The advantage I obtain from this
affair is the advantage that an artist obtains from the wide and marked circulation of a meritorious work.._ A
