To his excellency Richard Yates Gov State of Ills

Dear Sir

My son John H. Beanblossom who volunteered in the U.S. sevice on the 12th of Aug. last, (1862) and was received and, mustered into the service on the 25th day of Oct last, Fifer of Co. E. 130th Reg Ills vols infantry commanded by Col [N. Niles?] and has been in the service ever since Some time last April the musicians in that Reg. were reduced from ten fifers being one to each Co. to three and he was left out, and my son John H. Beanblossom is now required to do the duties of a common soldier at $12.00 per month, which your excellency knows is not fair. This I would not mind so much had his Father lived. On the 9th day of May last, his Father, my husband departed this life and now I am left, a widow and my means of support is very limited. My main dependence is on my son he being the oldest, having five younger children than him. not by any means able to maintain themselves.

now I a widow woman call upon your excellency to have him discharged from the service

as my main dependence for the support of my family depends on him

I would not require this at your hands if I thought it would injury the service but your excellency, knows that we must support those that we are dependant on us but feeling satisfied that my son is to young to do the duties of a common soldier and am satisfied that I cannot get along without him.

hope this will meet your apribation and feel satisfied your excellency will do right

My son is a member of Co. E. 130th Reg. Ills 2d Brigade 10th devision 13th Army Corps stationed at Vicksburg Miss

W B. Harris Captain of Co E will do anything in his power to assist me in this matter

Your excellency will please answer this and give me such instruction as is necessay in the case

I am willing to make affidavit to the facts set forth in this letter when ever called on

Yours with respect,

Carole Beanblossom
