Chicago Dec 29. 1863
Dear Governor,
We are satisfied that Ferry is running Taylor on joint account and that Ferry can adjust all matters if thinks it for his interest so to do. We also think that you had better say to Genl Fuller to come here and tell Ferry plainly and frankly that his head goes into the basket at once if the matter is not satisfactorily arranged.
There is no use is mincing matters---if ingrates turns traitors, let them understand that they are known and that a traitors [doom?] is before them. Ferry thinks he has your confidence so far that it cannot be shaken, but when he finds that you know him, he will quail and come up to the mark.
Yours Truly, C. Beckwith
[Farwell?] agrees with us.
