State of Illinois
Executive Department.
Springfield Septr. 18th. 1863.
Brig Genl. Jacob Ammen
Commanding District of Illinois.
Springfield.
General:
I have the honor to inform you that it is represented by creditable citizens of this State that the lives of citizens of Lasalle and their property are threatened by an armed mob at that place rendering it in my opinion necessary to have a military force to prevent the execution of such threats.
The property of the Illinois Central Rail Road, in which the General Government have an interest, is also liable to be destroyed
at or near that place
I therefore respectfully request that you dispatch to that place a military force of seventy-five men and two Commissioned officers, to render such aid to the Civil Authorities as may be necessary to protect the lives and property of Citizens there.
Very Respectfully
Richd. Yates
Governor
