Dear Sir
Wm Snyder was unfortunate in using the word refuses to publish speech - I requested him to write you that there was no disappointment - In fact you had given quite a full notice of the speech, quite as full as I had a right to expect - The Tribune has always been liberal to me in the way of publishing my speeches - and I hope naught will be set down in malice - I did
not see Snyder's letter before he sent it or I should have worded differently - Though he (Snyder) meant only to convey my idea expressed to him - I am now sorry he wrote at all - I feel under very many obligations to Tribune Co - and ask pardon for telling Snyder to write at all --- In haste
Truly Yours
Rich'd Yates
