View of Port Hudson, Louisiana from the river. Two ships appear in the harbor. The Siege of Port Hudson took place at the same time as the Siege of Vicksburg. The Siege of Port Hudson took place between May 21 and July 9, 1863 and corresponded with the Siege of Vicksburg. That allowed the Union to access the Mississippi River.
