7th DISTRICT,
Paris, Ills., March 7th 1864
Gov. Yates
Springfield Ill
Dear Sir:
Yours of recent date at hand. I am Satisfied that Genl. Hentzelman is well Satisfied that his dispach was not two Strong. He thinks we are in a bad fix in this County & Says that if (illegible) is arrested some 4 or 5 of these Devils we will then have peace. Several of us joined in a long written Statement of the Case Makeing it even Stronger than represented to you The Genl. Seemed to intimate that in due time some of this disturbing element would
be taken to Lt Warren or Lafayette. Our Citizens are well pleased with the Genl & all that he did while here he left On Saturday Evening.
Colo. Oaks is not a choice man with us, though he seemed to acquiese in all that was done. We do not think he hates rebs like Hentzelman does We are all now feeling safe though report says that the Rebs are gathering on Dolson Prairie, to give the soldiers battle.
Yours Truly
