Northwestern Christian Advocate. T.M. EDDY, D.D., Editor, Methodist Book Depository, 66 Washington St.

CHICAGO Aug 10 1864

Dear Governor:

Yours received: It is as frank as my own & so we are quits. I never for one moment believed you or Eastman meant any sharp-practice, but that some one did I was sure. Therefore I spoke. I could explain if I saw you my reasons.

Now Governor, you have no warmer friend than T. M. Eddy - one who sticks more closely to you & means to. Enough of that.

You have my best wishes for your personal, political & spiritual welfare.

I did not desire to serve on the Committee, but

having raised the issue I cannot feel that it will be manly to decline and I accept.

I trust my statement that I never for one moment believed that Gov. Yates meant an act of injustice or unfairness is sufficient as to my intent, and exonerates from the "big uncharitableness".

More of this matter if I can see you privately.

Yours truly

T. M. Eddy
