Paris Ills. Oct 15th/64
Gov Yates
Dear Sir.
We are labouring hard and using all the means at our command to carry the approaching election. But have fears of our ability to do so.
It is the unanimous request of the union men of this vicinity, that the two companies remaining at Little Rock of the 62nd Regt (Col Trues Command) also the Company of the 5th Cavalry that went from Cumberland County be Furloughed & brought home in time to vote in the approaching election, about 70 of Trues men belong to Edgar 100 of them to Coles & about 50 to Moultrie. We think the addition of these voters will make all safe in our counties securring the County & State office, also, Our Congressman. We understand Gen Ogelsby & yourself will be with us on the 28th. We will try and get up a respectible meeting for you.
Yours Truly
