Paris, Ill., Oct. 17th 1864
Gov. Rich'd Yates
D'r Sir
I write to request that you will use all your influence to secure a furlough to the 62d Ill. Vol, Col. Trul, now at Little Rock, Ark., for the purpose of allowing them to vote. We want particularly Co. K of that regiment. Will you also endeavor to secure a furlough for Co. E, 66th Ill., Co. E 12th Ill. Infty, and Cos. C & D & H 2th, 79th Ill. These regiments are all in the neighborhood of Atlanta, Ga. We are very anxious to carry our County ticket and to do so must have some help from the army. These men will, of course, help the National and State tickets just as much here by the same number would in any other County of the state, with the additional advantage that they can help the congressional, legislation and County ticket where it is needed. Will you do me the favor to look after this matter immediately, and greatly oblige
