Headquarters District Provost Marshal, Alton, Ill., Nov 17 1864.

Governor, Our people feel all right. I know no opposition to you here. You will see expressed in Alton Telegraph of 12th inst our feeling. Barnsback our member of Legislature has just got back-was away during the Campaign. I will have a good talk with him. I wrote some days ago to Alexander of Greenville to see Dressor member from Bond Co. for you. We want to see no opposition to you if possible

While the general result is so grand, it is especially gratifying to defeat Morrisen Job & West. Enough is it not to inspire emotions of thankfulness. We are to have a good time about next Wednesday John Baker will be up. Could you come down and join us?

Respectfully Yours H. G. McPike
