St. Louis Mo.
Dec. 1st 1864.
To His Excellency
Richd Yates. Gov.
Springfield Ills.
Dear Governor:
Yours of the 29th inst. has just Come to hand. I am surprised to hear of that combination for Washburne, Logan and Palmer. But the only thing to do in the case, is to meet and defeat the combination. Though I said in my last I thought it unnecessary to write to members further, yet I wrote Pinckney the same day.
I will now write him again, with all the Eloquence I can Command.
If he bolts you, he shall never be nominated for Congress in our district. And that is the Ambition of his life. But I Cannot think him untrue. I will know.
At what date will it be best to Come to Springfield before meeting of the Legislature?
I will be glad to know what progress this Combination makes, So that I may if possible operate Elsewhere to head it off. I know Niles and Thomas of St. Clair and will write to them.
Let me know when to come to Springfield and I will be there if possible.
Very truly
Your Obt Servt
