Danville Ills. Dec. 2d 1864
Gov Yates
My Dr Sir
Your letter of the 29th Nov. has Just came to hand & contents noted we were considerably Disapointed by your not being with us on that occasion but we had a fine time & Everything went of fine.
In Reference to any Efforts that are being made to Defeat you will prove of no Effect in my opinion the Eyes of a large majority of the union party in the State are turned to you as the man for the place & I Dont apprehend any difficulty in the party on that Subject my Judgment is Gov that you will be nominiated with a perfect whiz anything that I can do for you Just let me know & I am at your Service Either at the present or in the future hoping to See you Soon & that all may go well, (which I have an abiding faith will) I Remain your friend truly

Has received letter speeches &c. They were much disappointed in not having you with them at meeting.
He thinks there is no cause for fears of your success.
Thinks you will be nominated with a perfect whiz. The eyes of a large majority of the Union Party are turned to you as the only man for the place.
Anything he can do for you he is at your service &c
