Chicago Ill.
Dec. 12, 1864.
Dear Governor, -
I send you a paragraph clipt from the central organ of the Republicans of Vermont. It is not very brilliant, but the writer's intention was good.
This noon was the first time I have been out doors since Thursday last - having been quite sick. I learned that Mr. Cassel - (I never saw his name in print, but think that's the way to spell it) - is still in the city. I called, but he was not in. Dr. Buck & Senator Allen are in town. They go out to see Senator Lansing tomorrow. I shall
go with them.
I was this afternoon in the Tribune editorial rooms, when Jones and Bass came in ; nothing was said.
Are you safe? It looks to me so - beyond a question. But we may have hand-to-hand work before we get through with it.
Your opponents are making no impression upon the public mind of this section.
Respectfully & truly,
Francis A. Eastman
Gov. Richard Yates
