Chicago Dec. 15th 1864
His Excellency
Richard Yates Gov. of Illinois
My Dear Sir
In a conversation that I had with A. H. Dolton (one of our representatives) last week about the office of U. S. Senator, he said he did not know whether he should vote you or not. I was much surprised at this, as I had heard him say last Fall (during the campaign) that he should vote for you if he was elected. Some one must be at work with him against you. Who can it be?
I think you had better write him a letter, as he would consider it a great compliment to receive a letter from you. I think he can be made all right. At all events I hope so.
Yours Respectfully Charles H Reed States Atty.

Had a conversation with A H Dolton one of the Representatives, on the Senator question - and he told him he did not know whether he would vote for you or not.
He was surprised at this as he regarded him sure. Thinks some one has been at work with him --
Had you not better write to him as he would regard it as a great compliment
