Quincy Ills Dec 25 - 1864
Dear Govenor
I have just returned from the north part of the state---in Chicago I met Charles Wilson---Geo Gage---Wm Church and W. Bushnell all were Confident of your Election to the U. S. Senate
I learned what you probably already know that the old Legislature intend to Elect U. S. Senitor which will be easily check mated.
Bushnell advised me not to go to Senator Strain, it might cause him to think his vote was all important. I have no doubt his vote will be cast for you. Govenor you cannot be beat.
and with a proper Course which you can trace better than any of your friends I have already indicated and anticipate a most glorious future for you
I am as Ever truly Yours
