D. L. Phillips Esq
Springfield Ills
Dear Sir
We hear that Gen. Mather has resigned his position as Adjt. and that Judge Fuller has taken his place. How this will effect Col Pease Rigament I do not know, but as he interfered with Col Adams he may do the same with others, though we trust he will not trouble us. We Shall have 5 companies in camp tomorrow and all of the Cal in soon. these comps are not now full but they will be filled up, All in
All we aske is a little time. We are indebted to you for past favors, and we trust you will aid us still.
Any thing you can do for us will be gratefully received, and remembered.
We do not think they will interfere with us, but if they should be inclined to do so, for Gods sake hold them back. We have worked among these "Sesesh" like heroes, and can now see success before us. Will you please keep the Gov. & Adgt. straight, and greatly oblige
Yours truly
E.N. Bates
PS. I Expect to be in camp next week When I will see you.
