Description
General Milton K. Alexander poses for a portrait in a dark suit and tie. Alexander, who knew Abraham Lincoln when Lincoln practiced law in Edgar County, made a name for himself as a fighter during the War of 1812 and the Seminole Wars, eventually rising to the rank of brigadier general during the Black Hawk War. He served as postmaster in Paris, Illinois, for 25 years. In 1837 the Illinois General Assembly elected Alexander to the Board of Commissioners of Public Works.
