Hon Richard Yates Gov &c
Dear Sir
The officers appointed for the purpose of selecting a situation for a new camp for the soldiers now at Camp Butler, have chosen a tract of timber land which lies immediately along side of a small piece of land belonging to me upon which I have a house which is not of sufficient size to be of any great advantage to the army but would suit well for a sutlers store and Post office for the camp
Will you give me permission to occupy my own house as a sutler, if you will do so, I will discharge the duties of Post Master for the Camp free of expense
If it pleases you to grant my request, be kind enough to send me the necessary authority to do so and
Oblige Yours Truly
