Washington D.C. My Dear Daughter I have just recd-- your letter: and I thank you for it -- it was very interesting to me and to Judge Kellogg to whom I showed it. -- I was very glad to learn that Ma was getting better and I hope by the time I return she will be well enough to come on East -- I guess I
will have to let you come also-- The most important thing that will detain me here longer than Thursday will be getting Judge Kellogg an office. We are in great trouble in that respect but think I will be able to succeed for him before I leave. Tell Ma. that Judge Kellogg & myself dined at Mr Clark's yesterday and had an elegant dinner-- If you write
to me in reply to this which I hope you will do you must tell me in your letter to ask Judge Kellogg if he will have some tea? I have a great joke on him which took place at Mr Clark's dinner -- I am afraid you do not like your piano as you do not praise it very much. Kiss Ma & Dickey for me and write me on receipt of this. Your affectionate father. Rich'd Yates
