Flag Ever Glorious
ANTHEM
Suitable for all Patriotic Occasions by William Dodd Chenery
Flag ever glorious, flag of the free,
Wave thou victorious o'er land, o'er sea;
With thy appearing unbidden we rise,
Hail thee, proud banner, aloft in the skies.
Pines in the North thy great glories proclaim,
Palms of the South chant thy marvelous fame,
Out from the East rolls the anthem of praise,
Plains of the West the loud echoes upraise.
Flag ever glorious, thy colors bright,
Herald the tidings of justice, of right;
Hail, mighty banner, thou emblem of peace,
Float on in triumph when tumult shall cease.
Hail to thy Navy, its valor our pride,
Hail to thy Army that fought by its side,
Danger defying, defending thy land,
Honor upholding united they stand.
Flag ever glorious, hail to thy worth,
Gift of THE FATHER at Liberty's birth;
In thy enfolding the weak, the opprest
Find a safe haven, O, flag ever blest.
Shine ye through all the night, O, radiant stars,
Glow in the morning light, red and white bars,
Waft thy glad message to each distant shore,
"Peace to the Nations abide evermore."
