Description
Soldiers stand outside the cottage that Joseph William Drexel, a personal friend of Grant, loaned the ex-president.
On verso: "Drexel Cottage, Mt. McGregor N.Y. Where General Grant died on July 23rd 1885. He used to sit on the porch while writing his memoirs. This picture was taken after his death as you will gather by the presence of the soldier guards. Presented to Mark Van S. Douglas (by) daughter (Justine Prindle) of Dr. John H. Douglas, physician to General Grant during his last illness."
