Dear Governor
I have just seen for the first time a copy of the corespondence between the committee of the late Constitutional Convention and my brother Eugene. I have also just seen a copy of the corespondence between yourself and my brother. I wonder that you did not mention the subject while we were together. I assure you that I knew nothing about it. I hasten to say that I disapprove in toto of the course pursued by him and that I have just written him to this effect. I regard his conduct as entirely unjustifyable and almost inexcusable. If the convention had possessed the power to have rendered his regiment any service whatsoever, his conduct would have appeared more reasonable. I hope for my sake that you will say no more on the subject than is neccessary. I wish however that you would show this letter to those officers associated with you in the administration of public afairs in all of whom I have the greatest confidence. Further than this please to regard this letter as confidencial.
Truly Yours

His brothers letter to the Convention.
Write me a good letter to Carr, saying that I thank him, & that I did not mention to him because it was not pleasant to me as I knew it would make him feel bad. I shall treasure no hard feeling towards his brother & shall ever be the warm friend of Clark &c
