Gov Richard Yates
Dear Friend
Against our inclination I send your bill. We are so hard pressed from our heavy losses in the south that we are sometimes compeled to treat our best friends bad, we however know you will forgive us as before . I also enclose the bill of Mrs. Durand, our bill. I shall draw on you for, Mrs. Durand, is for your Ladys dresses which you can send to her through us.
Permit me to thank you for your kind servis in aiding us to obtain the contract for the clothing for the gallant soldiers of Illinois. We have done our best to furnish good clothing in Justus to our selves, as well as to our good friends who interceded in our behalf, of who you are the principle one, having known us so long and placing so much confidence in our integrity. We have tried hard in fulfilling our contract to merit your good opinion of us, and in all things to come up to the standard of your recommendation of us. With regard to that noble patriot Gen. John Wood. If he feels satisfied that
that we have done Justus in our dealing with the Illinois and if he should determine upon the necessity of your troops being furnished summer clothing say a good article of Blue Flannell for Blouses, perhaps a kind word in our behalf from you would obtain for us an order to make them. We know from our dealings with him that when favours are to be dealt out, he will not turn to the right or to the left to favour any one when he is acting for the public. I make this suggestion for your consideration, and if you can aid us, we shall be grateful. Mr. Sarmiento sends his kind regards to you also to Mr. Cassell, to which add our own, and accept my best wishes for your future welfare and happiness.
