His Excellency
Gov. Richd Yates
Dear Sir - My son Gideon E. Blackburn (22 yrs of age) has for some time past been engaged in the Banking business at Centralia Ills. He has an opportunity he thinks of making something by visiting London at the Worlds fair & is desirous of getting a letter of introduction from Prest. Lincoln to our Minister there. Would it be consistent with your views of propriety to give him a letter to Mr. Lincoln - My acquaintance with the President is but slight & I do not like to presume upon it. Any thing you may be kind enough to say of him will be all right & will be esteemed as a personal favor.
I refer you to Mr Shepard as to his character &c. If you write him a letter please send it direct to him [illegible]
Yr kind attention will much oblige
Yrs truly
A.M. Blackburn
