Hon Jesse K Dubois
Ills State Auditor
Dear Sir
My peculiar circumstances lead me to trouble you at this time which I hope you will pardon You know something of the circumstances that led me to resign my position in the 46th Regiment I had been mustered into the U.S. Service and was safe in my position and popular with the men but resigned to facilitate the putting the Regiment into the field by means of consolidation and to relieve the Governor from embarrassment - he promising to provide for me in some other Regiment which he found it at least dificult to do But under the new call there will be opportunities enough and I write to ask you to see the Governor and do what you can for me A company has been raised here for the three months service and there are continually recruits called for for the six companies we already have in the field so that It would be almost impossible at this
time to raise a company for the long term
Hoping that I am not asking too much of you
I am your friend
