Dear Sir
You are organizing a number of new Regts. and will doubtless consult the interests of the Services by moving at least one officer of practical experience in each Company & Regimental Organization. Capt. Lewis W Moore of my Regt, 49th, who is a son of the late Gen James B Moore whom you will recollect among the pioneers of Ills, desires if it shall be agreeable all round to be appointed to a field office in one of the new Regts.
Capt Moore was in the Battle of Donelson and Pittsburg Landing and bore himself most gallantly in battle. He has superior qualifications as a commanding officer. in his appointment the public services will [illegible] a valuable officer While the officers & men of this Regt. will feel that their services have not been wholly forgotten Respectfully your friend
