Hon Richard Yates

Dear Sir

I hope that you will not consider it out of place if I address you a few lines.

I would desire to go with the army this winter down the Missippi, and would desire some possition either in the quartermaster department or otherwise. Should it be in your power to confer a favor on me I should consider it as a special favor.

Should you not be able to comply with my request could you send me by mail a pass by which I could go down the Mississippi and see the army this winter in such capacity as I might think propper.

Any favor which you might bestow on me

will be received with the greatest favor

I am Respectfully yours CHC Havekluft
