Dear Father & Brothers

Nicholson letter came to hand on Friday morning during rehearsal. It is the first we have received from home Since our arrival here - Business has improved considerably during my first week but not enough for me to be greatly interested - We hope to do much better next week -- Lizzy played for the Benefit on Friday night and was finely received and warmly applauded I was taken with a [illegible] Hoarseness on Saturday last night, and am but little better today - I hope I shall not suffer with it tomorrow night in "Outahlauchet," They bring out "Putnam" at the other house. We shall have to work hard, and

rush on the novelties in order to compete with the tide of Success attending the Horse Prices at the other house - I will write and let you know the result -

Have nothing now in particular to add - The weather is still mild, although we have had some few sharp days, - Yesterday we had some Snow but it all vanished before night -

I am glad to hear of your good health at home -- Father must be careful about taking cold in this changeable Season

Give our love to him and Mother and all at home -- Affectionately

Joseph

John Herbert called to see me to day - He enquired particularly after the Boys & the "Fusiliers" &c &c

[vertically on page one]
